Learning & Education

Learning at the New Forest Heritage Centre

Understanding the past, preserving the present, shaping the future.

At the New Forest Heritage Centre, we offer inspiring learning experiences for schools, home educators, families, and community groups.

Through our flexible Pathways Programme, visitors of all ages can explore the history, landscapes, and people of the New Forest in engaging and meaningful ways.

Our learning offering is built around nine core themes that run consistently across all ages.

One Programme. Endless Possibilities.

Each theme is carefully adapted for different ages and interests, making every visit accessible, engaging, and relevant—whether through play, hands-on discovery, or deeper exploration.

Learning That Grows With You

From early years to adult learners, our sessions are designed to spark curiosity and build understanding — encouraging everyone to develop a lasting connection with the New Forest.

Creating a stronger connection to the New Forest, a desire to preserve it today and a passion to shape its future.

Community is vital to our work

Our archive has grown through generations of local donations and is filled with stories waiting to be discovered. From memory boxes to interactive sessions, there are enjoyable ways to explore and connect with the New Forest’s rich past.

We welcome community groups for informal talks and behind-the-scenes tours. Discover how we care for our collections, explore hidden treasures, and uncover the personal stories that bring local history to life, with plenty of opportunity for discussion and shared memories.

“We were very grateful for the opportunity to see some of the fascinating items from the archive. There was something of interest to appeal to everyone.

Thank you for organising the talks, and for reserving tables in the café for us. The tea and cakes went down very well."
